Everest Insurance® Appoints Mark Maritzen Global Chief Underwriting Officer

WARREN, New Jersey- June 1, 2023 -Everest Insurance^®, the insurance division of Everest Re Group, Ltd. (NYSE: RE), a global underwriting leader providing best-in-class property, casualty, and specialty reinsurance and insurance solutions, today announced that Mark Maritzen has joined the Company as Global Chief Underwriting Officer, effective immediately. Mr. Maritzen is based in New York, reporting to Mike Karmilowicz, President and CEO of Everest Insurance^®.

Mr. Maritzen will oversee all aspects of global underwriting for Everest Insurance^®, from defining risk appetite and underwriting guidelines to portfolio management, price setting and knowledge sharing, working with the Company's Regional Chief Underwriting Officers to drive underwriting excellence and global alignment.

An industry veteran with more than 25 years of deep global insurance and reinsurance experience having worked in multiple countries, Mr. Maritzen was most recently at Berkshire Hathaway Re managing and underwriting all property program business. Prior to that, he was Chief Underwriting Officer for Property North America at AIG where he led the development of underwriting strategy and guidelines for both Retail and Wholesale Property across the United States. Mr. Maritzen also served as Head of U.S. Property for both Endurance Insurance/Sompo International and Tokio Marine Global and has held positions of increasing responsibility at Guy Carpenter and Marsh. He received his Bachelor of Commerce with Honors in Economics from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mr. Maritzen replaces Mike Mulray who was recently appointed as President of North America Insurance .
