Aug. 14--The Evans Fire Protection District's public protection classification has been improved from Class Four to Class Three, according to a news release.
What this means for Evans residents is two things.
The first is this shows the department has an increased ability to respond to emergencies in the area. The second is a possibility for lower fire insurance premiums.
Most insurance companies look at PPC ratings to determine premiums, so moving up a classification means Evans residents could save money.
The EFPD suggests residence call their insurers to see how this classification change will affect their insurance.
"We hope this rating improvement produces a return on our taxpayers' investment into public safety by their lowering insurance premiums," said EFPD Fire Chief Ron Pristeria in the release.
The PPC evaluates fire departments and labels them on a class system ranging from one to 10, with one being the highest rating.
To determine the class of the department, the PPC evaluates how the department receives and handles fire alarms, department operations and water supply.
In Colorado, there are 681 fire departments rated, with 10 percent in Class Three and only 6 percent with a Class Two or One rating, the release stated.
