The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period--which was initiated in 2019--provides an opportunity for individuals who are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage (Part C) Plan to drop their plan or switch to a different Part C Plan. This enrollment period occurs from
Consumers who consider dropping a Part C Plan without switching to a different Part C Plan during this period should know that doing so will not make them eligible for a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plan, although they may be able to qualify through medical underwriting. Individuals who drop a Medicare Advantage Plan will be returned to only Medicare Parts A and B, and will have an opportunity to enroll in a Part D Plan so they are not without prescription drug coverage.
