Country’s Chief Dental Officer takes key Avēsis role

OWINGS MILLS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Avēsis Incorporated, a company that has been providing vision, dental, and hearing benefits to government and commercial groups for nearly 40 years, is honored to announce that Dr. Lynn Douglas Mouden will be joining the company, effective October 10.

Dr. Mouden brings 42 years of dental knowledge, capabilities, and prestige developed through a distinguished career, most recently as the foremost authority on oral health policy in his role as Chief Dental Officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He recently announced his retirement from that position.

As VP, Dental Director – Quality and Performance, Dr. Mouden will further develop the capabilities and competencies that make Avēsis a leading provider of dental and vision benefits for MCO and direct-to-state government programs. A well-respected and admired industry leader, Dr. Mouden has nurtured relationships with state Medicaid directors and key state and federal legislators.

Dr. Mouden began his career as a private practice dentist in Weston, Missouri in 1975. In 1991, he became the Associate Chief, Bureau of Dental Health, for the Missouri Department of Health and served as their interim chief for a year before serving as Director, Office of Oral Health, Arkansas Department of Health from 1999 to 2012.

Dr. Mouden is the founder and international spokesperson for P.A.N.D.A. (Prevent Abuse and Neglect through Dental Awareness); a technical advisor for the Center for Health Care Strategies Learning Collaborative; and a reviewer for both the Journal of the American Public Health Association and the Journal of the American Dental Association. He is currently a member of several oral health committees, including the National Advisory Committee on the Patient-Centered Dental Home, and Futures Without Violence Conference Advisory Committee.

Dr. Mouden will also represent Avēsis in a number of industry groups. He will be based in Washington, DC and report to Dr. Fred Sharpe, Chief Dental Officer.
