Jun. 27--After Jenny Abbott heard about animals being lost due to not having oxygen masks at fires, she made sure that didn't happen in Lincoln.
Abbott, the American Family Insurance agent in Lincoln, donated two pet oxygen masks to the Lincoln Fire Department Wednesday so they would have access to the machines in the event the need came up.
Chris Harding who worked with Abbott on the donation said LFD has one animal mask but it is outdated.
"This donation will let each of the vehicles have an animal oxygen mask," said Harding.
Firefighters who go into a burning buildings find that dogs are the first ones to get out but cats and children will stay inside.
"We know 75 percent of the homes we go into have pets. We always hope for the best if we know whether the animals are in or out. These pet masks will help in our rescue efforts," said Harding.
Abbott says she found the pet oxygen pet masks on a Yucko website and the cost was approximately $160 for the pair.
Abbott also donated two child car seats to Lincoln Fire Department that will help firefighters during training events.
