Ditching Dental Insurance Poses Health Risks

PR Newswire

CINCINNATI, May 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Americans without dental insurance are less likely to visit the dentist and, consequentially, more likely to suffer from:

  • Gum disease,
  • Diabetes,
  • Osteoporosis,
  • Heart disease, and
  • Other oral health issues, according to The National Association of Dental Plans.

Here's the good news:

Ohioans now can prevent these health issues, and the correlated expenses, with new, individual dental insurance options from The Dental Care Plus Group.

During the past decade, the number of Americans with dental coverage has declined, according to the American Dental Association. Many opt for out-of-pocket dental payment methods to save money in the short-term, but this method can add up quickly.

The American Dental Hygienists' Association found that every $1 spent on preventive oral care can result in $8 to $40 in savings on future dental costs. Experts say the savings will likely increase in the future.

"When people ditch dental insurance, they're usually forgoing preventive dental care entirely due to high out-of-pocket costs," said Anthony A. Cook, president and CEO of The Dental Care Plus Group. "We launched our new individual dental plans to help Ohioans keep their teeth and gums healthy – without breaking the bank."

The Dental Care Plus Group's individual plans are tailored to each customer's specific needs—be it Medicare eligibles, families, self-employed, recently retired, single persons or college students. Plan options cover the basics like preventive exams and cleanings, while others help cover more complex services like crowns and root canals.

The individual plans, launched in the Greater Cincinnati area in late 2014, became available to all Ohio consumers on April 1, 2015.

To learn how you can sign up for these affordable dental insurance plans, visit www.MyDentalCarePlus.com or call 888-253-3279.
