Disaster recovery centers opening in Folkston, Douglas for Irma victims

Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville, FL)

Oct. 06--The Federal Emergency Management Agency will open disaster recovery centers in Charlton and Coffee counties Saturday to help those with losses from Tropical Storm Irma.

A mobile Disaster Recovery Center in Folkston will open at 426 Rosa Parks Road and the one in Douglas will be located at the Coffee County Fire Department at 941 Mahogany Road.

Both will open at 8 a.m. Saturday, and the Folkston center will be open daily from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The hours of the Douglas center will also be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily until Oct. 15 when it will close on Sundays. It will also be open Columbus Day.

Representatives from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will staff the center.

Those applying for assistance do not need to go to a disaster recovery center to register with FEMA, and survivors are encouraged to register before visiting a center if possible.

Those who visit the centers can check on the status of applications, ask questions about FEMA determination letters and how to appeal FEMA decisions, get assistance applying for SBA disaster loans and ask questions about flood insurance and hazard mitigation methods.

Applications for assistance may be made online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app or by phone at (800) 621-3362 or at (800) 462-7585 for those who require a TTY line.

Nov. 14 is the deadline to register with FEMA or to submit disaster loans in Georgia.
