Damage from Frederick town house fire exceeds $1 million
Frederick News-Post (MD)
Jun. 18--An electrical failure caused a fire that destroyed seven town houses in Frederick earlier this month, according to a news release.
The fire displaced 12 adults and five children. Insurance adjusters are determining the total loss for those people, but initial estimates indicate the overall damage is valued at more than $1 million, according to the news release.
No residents were injured in the fire, but three firefighters were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
That failure happened "in the void space between the false roof on the face of the building and the second floor wall of the corner townhouse," according to the release. About 75 firefighters countywide were dispatched to the fire at 537 Carrollton Drive just before 9 a.m.June 7.
The Red Cross arrived to assist the displaced residents. Each household received emergency funds and housing for the initial 72 hours after the fire from the Western Maryland chapter of the Red Cross. United Way and South End Baptist Church also initiated efforts to assist the residents.
