Nov. 26--Two people were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with injuries late Wednesday afternoon after a crash at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Airport Road.
Witnesses told the Hutchinson Police Department that a PT Cruiser was eastbound on Fourth Avenue and disobeyed a stoplight, striking a pickup truck that was northbound on Airport Road. That caused the pickup to roll onto its side. The PT Cruiser then collided with a southbound pickup truck, although with much less force.
Police said the driver of the overturned pickup, Elektra Budge, 19, of Pretty Prairie, was taken to the hospital by ambulance and the driver of the PT Cruiser, Sheena Keeney, 51, of Wichita, was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. Police said they thought the drivers were both conscious.
Brent Cress of Hutchinson was driving the southbound pickup. He said he was uninjured.
Budge's and Keeney's vehicles were towed from the scene.
Police directed traffic through the intersection while the crash was cleared. Northbound traffic was detoured around the crash site. The intersection was reopened entirely around 5:20 p.m.
Keeney was issued a citation of disobeying a red light and no proof of insurance, police reported.
