County Executive McCoy Celebrates Long Term Care Administrator’s Week

ALBANY, New York, March 11 -- Albany County issued the following news:

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today is recognizing the public servants of the Albany County Nursing Home on the first day of National Long Term Care Administrator's Week. Between March 11 and March 15, staff across the country who provide high-quality care to seniors and the disabled are honored for providing critical services and being a central pillar of public health.

"Here in Albany County, we are committed to improving the lives of the over 60,000 seniors who call it home, and these efforts couldn't be fully accomplished without our dedicated Nursing Home administrators who care for some of those most in need," said County Executive McCoy. "While I believe every week should be Long Term Care Administrator's Week, this gives us the chance to make sure these selfless individuals know their hard work hasn't gone unnoticed."

"The administration is honored to work with the dedicated and hardworking staff at the Albany County Nursing Home. This is a week that we can recognize the efforts which are demonstrated year round to our resident population in providing quality care," said Albany County Department of Residential Health Care Facilities Executive Director Larry Slatky.

Albany County relies on Nursing Home staff to ensure that hundreds of our senior residents have access to 24-hour skilled nursing care; physical, occupational, respiratory, and speech therapies; nutritional programs developed and overseen by registered dietitians; social services; recreational activities; clinic services; and psychological services, among others services.

To become an Administrator takes commitment and dedication, requiring a rigorous internship, followed by state and national board exams. Upon becoming an administrator, they must continue life-long learning to provide the best care possible in every situation. They are masters of multi-tasking, taking into account every aspect of a person's life, not just their medical needs, while building a sense of home and community.

After decades of neglect, County Executive McCoy has spearheaded a massive renovation project at the Nursing Home, a 77,000 square foot expansion valued at $80 million that will ensure staff are better equipped to care for residents. In part because of this investment, Albany County formally accepted the 2018 Bronze National Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). Albany County was one of only four facilities throughout New York State to be recognized with the award and only 37 in total have received the award.
