Congressman Andy Biggs Calls for Passage of the 2015 Obamacare Repeal Bill

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Andy Biggs released the following statement regarding the Senate's progress on Obamacare repeal:

"After months of inaction and indecisiveness, Congress is running out of excuses for our failure to repeal Obamacare as we promised our constituents. President Trump once said we would repeal this "disastrous" and "calamitous" law. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell once said Congress would repeal Obamacare "root and branch." House Republicans once said we would repeal Obamacare, not merely fix it, because it was a "knot of regulations, taxes, and mandates [that] cannot be untangled.

"Obamacare repeal should have been easy to accomplish. In 2015, both the House and the Senate passed a bill that repealed most of Obamacare's mandates, taxes, and regulations, but it was vetoed by President Obama. Now that we have a Republican President who would immediately sign any legislation similar to the 2015 bill, Congress apparently has lost its longstanding commitment to repeal this law. This is troubling.

"The 2015 Obamacare repeal bill is not perfect, but it is a far better start than the legislation considered by both the House and Senate this year. The 2015 bill will remove most of Obamacare and pave the way for Americans to receive significant premium relief. The ball is in the Senate's court. I hope that Senator McConnell will strongly consider bringing up the 2015 bill for consideration and I trust that those who have already voted in favor of the 2015 bill, will vote for it again in 2017. I would support passage of the 2015 bill and hope to see it on President Trump's desk for his historic signature."
