Common pleas court arraigns indicted defendants

Nov. 05--A man accused of robbing a gas station at knifepoint in 2011 was recently arrested and indicted by a Lawrence County grand jury last week.

Gregory M. Warren, 29, of 3903 Mound St., Ashland, was indicted on a count of first-degree aggravated robbery for the incident at the BP gas station on Charley Creek Road in 2011, as well as third-degree failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, fifth-degree possession of cocaine and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia. Those charges were related to incidents on Sept. 4 of this year.

Warren was arraigned Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Judge Charles Cooper set bond at $100,000 cash or surety and own-recognizance. A pretrial was set for Nov. 18.

Other indictments, according to the office of Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson, are:

-- Justin Dennison, 38, of 220 Private Drive 615, Proctorville, was indicted on counts of third-degree abduction, second-degree aggravated arson and misdemeanor carrying concealed weapons and aggravated menacing.

Dennison was arraigned Wednesday and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to all charges. Cooper set bond $150,000 cash or surety and OR. A pretrial will be set once a mental evaluation is completed.

-- Deana Debord, 45, of 4083 Owl Creek Road, Lucasville, was indicted on two third-degree counts of aggravated trafficking in heroin, a fifth-degree count of trafficking in heroin and a fifth-degree count of possession of heroin.

Debord pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Wednesday. Cooper set bond at $40,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial for Nov. 18.

-- Rudolph Marion-Turner Stepney Jr., 41, of 9338 N. Martindale St., Detroit, Michigan, was indicted on two third-degree counts of aggravated trafficking in heroin and a fifth-degree count of trafficking in heroin.

Stepney pleaded guilty at his arraignment on Wednesday. Cooper set bond at $60,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial for Nov. 18.

-- Christopher Webb, 21, of 402 R. Wilgus St., Proctorville, was indicted on a fourth-degree count of theft, to which he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. Judge D. Scott Bowling set a pretrial for Nov. 18.

-- Demar Johnson, 23, of 1010 S. Ninth St., Ironton, was indicted on third-degree counts of tampering with evidence and having weapons while under disability, to which he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. Bowling set bond at $25,000 cash or surety and OR. A pretrial was set for Nov. 10.

-- Nicholas Coleman, 48, of 13815 Soddy Daisy Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee, was indicted on a fifth-degree count of breaking and entering, to which he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR plus GPS. A pretrial was set for Nov. 18.

-- Brandon Hogsten, 21, of 65 Private Drive 954 County Road 52, Ironton, was indicted on a fourth-degree count of burglary and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, to which he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment.

Cooper continued bond from a lower court and added a $10,000 OR bond, GPS and house arrest. A pretrial was set for Nov. 18.

-- Donald Wine, 27, listed as homeless, was indicted on a third-degree count of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, to which he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. Bowling set bond at $15,000 OR and GPS. A pretrial was set for Nov. 10.

-- Aaron Holley, 37, of 28 Township Road 1038, Chesapeake, was indicted on a fourth-degree count of theft of drugs, to which he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR and set a pretrial for Nov. 18.

-- Isaac Burns, 23, of 811 17th St., Huntington, was indicted in a second-degree count of burglary, to which he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. Cooper set bond at $75,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial for Nov. 18.

Other indictments are:

-- Gary Hay, 41, of 3109 S. Fifth St., Ironton, arson, insurance fraud;

-- Alwalie Barber, 42, of 2750 E. Vernor Highway, Detroit, Michigan, escape;

-- Scott Hanna, 38, of 1346 28th St., Huntington, misdemeanor assault;

-- Kimberly Johnson, 25, of 165 Township Road 1034, South Point, failure to appear;

-- James Layman Jr., 31, of 2226 State Route 378, Chesapeake, tampering with evidence, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and misdemeanor using weapons while intoxicated and OVI;

-- Reggie Crance, 25, of 19797 State Route 93, forgery, identity fraud;

-- David Hess, 20, of 103Columbus St., South Point, two counts of forgery;

-- Brian Layne, 29, of 106 Freeman Court, South Point, four counts of theft by deception, grand theft, two counts of misdemeanor theft, three counts of theft of a firearm, three counts of theft, burglary.

An indictment is a formal allegation that a person has commitment a crime. The accused are innocent until proving guilty in a court of law.
