Colo. Gov. Polis Releases Statement on President Biden's State of the Union Address

DENVER, Colorado, March 8 -- Gov. Jared Polis, D-Colorado, issued the following statement on March 7, 2024:

Tonight, Governor Polis released a statement following President Biden's State of the Union address.

"Tonight, President Biden outlined a future-focused vision that emphasized the issues important to Coloradans, including protecting freedom and democracy, investing in education, and reducing healthcare and housing costs. Healthcare and housing are the two highest costs that Coloradans face, and over the last few years we have taken important steps to save people money. In Colorado, we are working to increase our housing supply and reduce costs for homeowners and renters, and we have capped the cost of insulin for all Coloradans, created the Colorado Option and Reinsurance efforts, and are working to reduce prescription drug costs. We look forward to continuing Colorado's leadership and building on this important work alongside the President and his administration. Together, we will continue working to move Colorado and our country forward," said Colorado Governor Jared Polis.

In 2019, Governor Polis signed legislation that capped the price of insulin at $100 per month and the landmark Colorado Option continues to save Coloradans money on healthcare. Additionally, Colorado's Reinsurance program is saving Coloradans $411 million on health insurance premiums.

Governor Polis laid out a vision where Coloradans can afford homes for rent or purchase near jobs and transit options, reducing traffic and improving air quality. As Vice-Chair of the National Governors Association, Governor Polis recently led a plenary session on housing with bipartisan Governors from across the country.

President Biden outlined a vision to ensure all American children have access to high-quality education, including preschool for all three and four-year-olds. Governor Polis has been committed to investing in Colorado kids by providing Colorado families with free, full-day kindergarten and Universal Preschool. Colorado is saving Colorado families an average of $6,000 on preschool and thousands more on free kindergarten while ensuring our children get the best possible start in life.
