Cigna to Offer Individual and Family Plans in Chicago Area

Insurance Weekly News

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Weekly News -- Cigna (NYSE: CI), already a leading provider of employer-sponsored group health plans in Illinois and across the United States, is introducing new individual and family medical plans in the Chicago area, both on and off the federal public marketplace. The new plans, called Cigna Connect, will take effect on January 1, 2017.

Cigna Connect individual and family medical plans will feature a range of plan designs and price points, and be offered in five Chicago-area counties during the fall 2016 enrollment period, which starts on November 1 for plans effective on or after January 1, 2017: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kankakee, and Will counties.

The majority of primary care physicians, hospitals and specialty practices chosen to participate in the Cigna Connect network are part of the AMITA Health and Presence Health systems.

Both AMITA Health and Presence Health are a part of Cigna's Collaborative Care program, a value-based model that aims to improve patient access to health care, enhance care coordination, and achieve the same population health goals as accountable care organizations (ACOs): improved health, affordability and patient experience. The commitment of AMITA Health and Presence Health to affordable, high-quality, coordinated care played a significant role in their being selected for participation in the new Cigna Connect plans.

"The Cigna Connect plan will bring a new, cost-effective option for quality health care to individuals and families in the Chicago area, including those who are participating in the health insurance marketplace for the first time," said Mike Phillips, President, Midwest Market, for Cigna. "Cigna Connect customers will also gain access to highly personalized health care options including our recently expanded telehealth services for the remote treatment of typically minor medical conditions such as allergies, cold and flu, and sinusitis; and our 'One Guide' digital and telephonic solution, which helps our customers more easily identify and connect to health care providers."

"AMITA Health is partnering with Cigna to provide cost effective access to health care services provided by physicians and medical professionals who are highly focused on quality outcomes and preventive care," said Mark A. Frey AMITA Health President and CEO. "With the exodus of payors that are willing to provide value-based benefit plan options to individuals and families who shop the exchange and individual market for coverage, we believe Cigna's new Individual and Family Plan benefit plan offering will provide significant value to families in the communities served by AMITA Health."

"For our consumers, Cigna Connect products deliver greater access to affordable insurance coverage focused on improving individual health outcomes; aligning with Presence Health's commitment to providing quality, compassionate care to the communities we serve," said Presence Health President and CEO, Michael Englehart.
