Casey Unveils New Report on GOP Sabotage of Health Care System

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey is releasing a report that outlines how the Trump Administration and far right Congressional Republicans continue to take steps to undermine the stability of the health insurance market. Republican leadership's attempts to undermine stability and brew uncertainty will hurt consumers across the Commonwealth and the nation.

According to health insurance regulators and executives, the decisions by the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans have created uncertainty in the health insurance market and will result in higher costs for consumers.

"In its efforts, or lack thereof, the Trump Administration and congressional Republicans virtually ignore the fact that over 1.1 million Pennsylvanians have gained health coverage under the Affordable Care Act," said Senator Casey. "This sabotage will breed uncertainty, raise costs, and strip health care protections away from millions, all to give a tax break to the most elite among us."

The Administration's steps have included:

* halting outreach to inform individuals and families of affordable health insurance options

* weakening insurance pools

* increasing the cost of coverage by failing to provide certainty about ongoing funding for cost-sharing reductions which make deductibles and copayments affordable

At the same time, Congressional Republicans are pursuing an irresponsible plan that will cause millions of Americans to lose their health coverage as soon as next year.
