Carolina Injury Firm Used AI to Verify Records Mid-Mediation, Settling Case for $1.625 Million

Business Wire

Chandler Volta Personal Injury Lawyers uses EvenUp’s AI platform to catch missing records, build treatment timelines and draft demand letters

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
When a mediator carried questions between defense counsel and the insurance adjuster, co-owner Joe Volta didn’t stop to search the file. He pulled up the client’s treatment history on the spot using AI. Chandler Volta Personal Injury Lawyers resolved the case for $1.625 million.

Founded in 2023 by Volta and Michael Chandler, the firm serves clients across North and South Carolina. It once prepared cases entirely by hand, combing through hundreds or thousands of pages of medical records. A straightforward demand letter took a day or two; complex ones took a week or more.

How is AI changing personal injury case preparation?

Chandler Volta now uses EvenUp to build treatment timelines that flag gaps in care and surface prior injuries. In one case, a client’s earlier back injury could have given the insurer an opening. The timeline showed when the client was symptom-free, the date of the collision and the exacerbation that followed, so the team was not blindsided.

EvenUp is the first proactive AI platform for personal injury firms, organizing medical records, drafting demand letters, and flagging issues across a case. It serves thousands of firms, including 30% of the top 100 PI firms in the United States.

Missing-document alerts help the team find absent provider records and bills before negotiation begins. Across the firm’s cases, those gaps represented more than $560,000 in potential settlement impact.

For demands, the firm uses AI-generated drafts with line-level citations so attorneys can verify each point against the records.

“EvenUp has cut that timeline down drastically. It allows us to accurately, efficiently create demands, learn about the cases using technology instead of having to read through every page,” Volta said.

Since adopting the platform, the firm’s personal injury team has grown from 4 to more than 20 people, with more than 800 active files. Including time savings, missing-document value, lower case-carrying costs and higher policy-limit recoveries, the firm estimates a return above 10x.
