Campbell, Walworth counties covered by second disaster declaration

Sep. 24--President Donald Trump has approved a second disaster declaration request from South Dakota, according to a news release from Gov. Kristi Noem.

Among the counties it covers are Campbell and Walworth.

The approval allows federal money to be used to help local government entities recover from property damage sustained during severe storms and flooding in late May and early June.

"A preliminary damage assessment conducted in June documented about $8 million in damage to public infrastructure in 25 counties and on two reservations," according to the release.

The other areas covered include Aurora, Bennett, Brule, Butte, Custer, Deuel, Fall River, Gregory, Haakon, Hamlin, Hanson, Jackson, Jones, Lyman, Meade, Mellette, Pennington, Sanborn, Todd, Tripp, Turner, Union and Ziebach counties and the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation and the Rosebud Reservation.

A federal disaster declaration was also approved in June after severe winter storms and flooding affected 58 counties.
