LOS ANGELES, California, Jan. 29 -- The California Department of Insurance issued the following statement by Commissioner Ricardo Lara on the Supreme Court's ruling to uphold the Trump administration's discriminatory public charge rule:

"Trump's public charge rule is meant to drive a wedge between immigrants and the programs that are there to protect all residents, including access to health care.
"As the leader of California's largest consumer protection agency, I will guard the rights of those who continue to be targeted and discriminated against by this federal government.
"Anyone who has questions about how the federal rule would affect them should contact a qualified immigration attorney or one of the groups listed on the California Department of Social Services website."
