Calif. Department of Insurance: San Diegan Arrested for Allegedly Attempting to Defraud Auto Insurer

SAN DIEGO, California, Sept. 23 -- The California Department of Insurance issued the following news release:

Elizabeth Tinsley Hall, 28, of Escondido, was arrested last week on five counts of insurance fraud after allegedly misrepresenting information to her insurer in order to collect unearned insurance benefits of $3,500.

Hall reported to her insurer that she was involved in a collision on September 27, 2018 where she backed her 2012 Ford Escape into a 2015 Kawasaki ZX-6R in a parking lot in El Cajon. The investigation revealed the collision took place earlier than reported.

The Department of Insurance's investigation revealed Hall did not have proper auto insurance coverage when the collision occurred. Hall obtained auto insurance after the collision took place and misrepresented the time of her collision to receive insurance benefits to cover the damages. The owner of the Kawasaki also contradicted Hall's story and was able to provide a video recording that showed the collision occurred earlier in the day at a different location than she reported.

As a result of Hall's misrepresentation the claim was denied by her insurer before any losses occurred. This case is being prosecuted by the San Diego County District Attorney's office.
