BRIEF: Woman accused of falsely reporting car stolen

Jan. 27--El Paso County sheriff's investigators earlier this week arrested a woman accused of taking her vehicle into Mexico and then reporting it stolen, officials said.

Millie Torres Vasquez allegedly reported that her vehicle was stolen and filed an insurance claim, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Investigators said they later learned Torres had allegedly taken the vehicle into Mexico days before it was reported stolen.

Torres was arrested Tuesday on charges of making a false report to a police officer and insurance fraud over $30,000. She was released on a $15,000 bond from the El Paso County Jail on the same day that she was arrested.

El Paso police auto theft investigators recently arrested seven people accused of making false police reports that their vehicles had been stolen last year.
