BRIEF: UC Berkeley hosting Rep. Barbara Lee talk about health, Obamacare

Feb. 27--BERKELEY -- Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, will be the featured speaker at "Fighting for Health Equity in 2017 and Beyond" on March 13 at UC Berkeley.

The event, sponsored by the Berkeley Center for Social Medicine, the Schools of Social Welfare and Public Health at UC Berkeley, and by Samuel Merritt University, will be from 4 to 5 p.m. in Room 2050 of the Valley Life Sciences Building.

UC Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks will deliver opening remarks.

The event is free, but registration is recommended through EventBrite.

Affordable, high-quality healthcare is a fundamental human right, according to event notes, and Lee, who was trained as a psychiatric social worker, wants to make sure that all people, especially the most vulnerable, have access to it.

"Congresswoman Barbara Lee's main healthcare focus is always on health disparities and health equity, especially for racial and ethnic minorities," the notes say, adding that Lee opposes any efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
