BRIEF: Rehab clinic executive cheated addicts to enjoy lavish lifestyle
New York Daily News, The (NY)
Feb. 06--A top executive at a crooked chain of rehab clinics testified Tuesday about the lavish lifestyle he enjoyed thanks to drug addicts.
Jason Brand -- who took the stand during the trial of a former Narco Freedom employee, John Cornachio -- testified that in 2014 he leased two Mercedes-Benzes, a Chevy Equinox and a Tesla Sedan.
He confirmed in Bronx Supreme Court that he had pleaded guilty to corruption, insurance fraud, perjury and grand larceny, and was cooperating with prosecutors in Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's office.
He testified that he and Cornachio had created a shell company to further the Narco scheme. The clinics are now closed.
Prosecutors charged in 2015 that Narco Freedom had treated struggling New Yorkers as human ATMs, forcing them into drug treatments in exchange for roofs over their heads.
