Nov. 20--Plans for the 1,000-acre Magnolia Ranch project north of Wheatland were approved last Thursday by the Yuba County Board of Supervisors.
Supervisors voted 3-1 to approve the specific plan and environmental impact report for the mixed-use project south of Ostrom Road between South Beale and Bradshaw roads. Separate votes came after a sometimes heated 5 1/2-hour session that ended at 11:35 p.m.
Supervisors Mary Jane Griego, John Nicoletti and Andy Vasquez voted in support of the project while Supervisor Randy Fletcher recused himself because of a conflict of interest. Fletcher said Friday that both county counsel and the Fair Political Practices Commission determined the fact his insurance business has clients within the Magnolia Ranch property represents a conflict. Supervisor Roger Abe voted against the plan.
Opponents said Friday they intend to start collecting signatures for a referendum to overturn the board's action.
