BRIEF: Fort Wayne-based MedPro acquires Oklahoma insurer

Sept. 03--MedPro Group, a Fort Wayne-based insurer that offers liability insurance to health care providers, has announced that it has completed its acquisition of PLICO Inc., a health care liability insurer in Oklahoma.
The company said that the transaction took less than 60 days from signing an agreement to closing. "MedPro teams have already begun working cohesively to best serve Oklahoma health care providers," the company said in a news release announcing the transaction's completion.
Medpro is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, the $300 billion holding company led by Warren Buffet. Medpro, founded in 1899, has about 350 employees in Fort Wayne. It has more than 140,000 customers and more than $874 million in annual premiums.
PLICO employs about 30 people, serves more than 2,200 Oklahoma health care providers, and has annualized gross written premiums of approximately $30 million.
