Jan. 26--A fire that destroyed a Hubert home earlier this week was deemed an accident, Onslow County Fire Marshal Brian Kelly said.
According to Kelly the homeowners reported the structure on Mullens Road in the Bear Creek Community of Hubert was on fire at 3 a.m. Tuesday.
The two occupants and five pets were able to get out of the home. Onslow County Tax Records list the 1,215-square-foot waterfront home as owned by Kevin and Tina Phillips.
The house was heavily involved when firefighters arrived, Kelly said. They had the fire under control within 90 minutes.
The house was deemed a total loss, but was covered by insurance, he said.
Onslow County Fire Rescue, Hubert, Swansboro, Piney Green, Stella and Western Carteret all responded to the scene.
The American Red Cross was contacted and responded to assist the homeowners.
The site was cleared by 10 a.m., Kelly said.
