BRIEF: DUI, endangerment charges filed after Bracken County crash kills 1, injures six, police say

May 26--A man has been charged with driving under the influence and wanton endangerment after a crash that killed a 19-year-old passenger and injured the driver and five other people, police said.

Matthew Gilbert, 27, was driving a 2007 Dodge pickup truck on Ky. 539 in Bracken County, Kentucky State Police said. Gilbert lost control of the pickup, which spun and crashed into a tree.

Jacob Ammerman, who was sitting in the back seat on the driver's side, was killed instantly, police said.

Gilbert and five other passengers were taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center or University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with serious injuries. Gilbert was charged with DUI, six counts of wanton endangerment, wearing no seat belt and failure to prove insurance. Additional charges are possible, police said.

The collision remains under investigation.
