Feb. 27--Sarita Bhandarkar, a Democrat and attorney from Cornwall-on-Hudson, has announced her campaign for the 99th Assembly District seat held by Republican Assemblyman Colin Schmitt.
Bhandarkar is an Orange County native who worked as a lawyer in Manhattan before opening her own law office in Cornwall-on-Hudson, where she specializes in estate planning, elder law, Medicaid planning and special needs planning.
She and Schmitt will compete in November for an Assembly district that takes in nine Orange County towns and Stony Point in Rockland County. Schmitt, R-New Windsor, won the seat in 2018 to succeed Democrat James Skoufis, who was elected to the state Senate that year.
