Bankers Life Now Sells Medicare Supplement Plan D Insurance

PR Newswire

CHICAGO, May 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Bankers Life, a national life and health insurance brand that focuses on the insurance needs of Americans who are near or in retirement, announced today it will begin offering consumers Medicare Supplement Plan D.

Medicare Supplement Plan benefits are standardized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), however, when customers purchase Medicare Supplement Plan D through Bankers Life, they can receive free memberships to the fitness, social engagement and wellness programs SilverSneakers® and WholeHealth Living Choices®.

"There are many expense categories that Medicare doesn't cover, which can leave consumers responsible for a large share of their medical bills and other out-of-pocket costs related to health care needs," said Scott Goldberg, president of Bankers Life. "With healthcare costs continuing to rise, consumers can protect themselves against unexpected expenses and minimize the financial burden by adding supplemental Medicare coverage like Plan D."

Plan D is for individuals who are qualified for and enrolled in Original Medicare and helps cover:

  • Out-of-pocket hospital costs
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • All copayment amounts for inpatient hospital care
  • 80% of Foreign Travel emergency care

"We want to help our customers maintain greater control of their well-being and embrace a healthy lifestyle, while differentiating our product from others in the market, which is why Bankers Life partnered with SilverSneakers and WholeHealth Living Choices," said Goldberg. "Staying healthy, in combination with financial wellness, is equally important when planning for a secure retirement."

SilverSneakers and WholeHealth Living Choices membership features include:

  • Access to 16,000+ participating fitness locations
  • Health and nutrition tips along with exercise videos
  • Fitness classes for all levels and abilities
  • Discounted Pilates and tai chi classes at participating locations
  • Discounted physical therapy and acupuncture services at participating locations

Bankers Life Medicare Supplement is underwritten by Colonial Penn Life Insurance Company and SilverSneakers and WholeHealth Living Choices are non-insurance programs offered through Tivity Health®.

Medicare Supplement Plan D will be available in up to 43 states in a phased rollout starting April 22. It is currently available in 29 states: AL, AR, OK, RI, SD, GA, KS, MI, WY, AZ, WV, MS, NM, IA, SC, ND, OH, IN, NV, LA, NH, MD, TN, KY, OR, AK, ID, NC and DE. The issue age is 65 and older or disabled, and policy benefits may vary by state. SilverSneakers and WholeHealth Living Choices membership subject to state availability.
