Arizona Democratic Party: McSally Won't Stand Up For Arizonans

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

PHOENIX, Arizona, Feb. 21 -- The Arizona Democratic Party issued the following news release:

Following Donald Trump's Phoenix rally to boost Martha McSally's flailing Senate campaign yesterday, McSally still hasn't responded to Trump's proposed military funding raid that could cause Arizona bases to "take a big hit."

On Tuesday night, Arizona reporters went to a McSally campaign event in Scottsdale to "get her thoughts on [Trump] moving military dollars to the border wall."

But McSally refused to answer "any questions" on the raid -- or on anything else, for that matter.

It's not the first time that McSally has failed to stand up for Arizonans in the past year:

* Standing by the Trump-GOP lawsuit to end pre-existing condition coverage protections -- While Trump and national Republicans continue their lawsuit to end pre-existing condition coverage protections, McSally has refused to stand up for Arizonans' health care access, instead insisting that "It's not my role" to oppose the suit.

* Voting to defend AARP-opposed "junk" insurance plans -- In October 2019, McSally doubled down on her record of voting to drive up health care costs and gut coverage protections, by voting to protect a Trump expansion of "junk" insurance plans that the AARP opposes because the plans let insurers deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions and charge older Arizonans more for coverage.

* Staying silent on Trump's budget that would slash $1 trillion from the Medicaid -- Arizona's Medicaid program AHCCCS covers 3 in 5 Arizona nursing home residents and 2 in 5 kids. McSally has done and said nothing to oppose the budget and stand up for Arizonans.

* Declining to condemn Trump comments on cutting retirement security programs -- When Trump announced an openness to cutting programs like Social Security and Medicare in January, McSally said nothing.

* Standing by as Mitch McConnell blocks Medicare drug price negotiation -- So far in 2020, pharmaceutical companies have already jacked up the prices of 400 drugs. And McSally has stood by as Mitch McConnell blocks a U.S. House-passed bipartisan plan to let Medicare negotiate for lower prescription drug prices -- even though the bill is estimated to help bring down pricing for certain treatments by thousands of dollars per month. Incidentally, a pharma-linked group that's spent $1 million to keep McSally's vote in the Senate vocally opposes Medicare price negotiation.

* Letting Trump raid $30 million from Fort Huachuca -- Last year McSally voted 3 times to let Trump raid $30 million from a project at Fort Huachuca to update a building the Army has called "unsafe" for service members. Service members at Fort Huachuca lost out as McSally failed to adequately stand up for them -- but two McSally campaign donors did win $660 million in federal construction contracts funded by the raid.
