Arizona Democratic Party: McSally Again Votes Against Arizonans' Health Care

PHOENIX, Arizona, Oct. 27 -- The Arizona Democratic Party issued the following news release:

Eight days out from an election in which more than 1.5 million Arizonans have already voted, Martha McSally today voted with Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to give a lifetime appointment to Trump Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett -- a vote to jeopardize Arizonans' health care access and eliminate pre-existing condition coverage protections.

In two weeks, Republicans are set to argue before the Supreme Court for the elimination of the Affordable Care Act and the law's pre-existing condition coverage protections. Trump last week reaffirmed his hope that the Court strikes down the health care law, and Barrett's record suggests that she will be another vote on the Court to eliminate the law and its coverage protections. Republican Senators like Utah's Mike Lee have likewise signaled they believe Barrett will help to deliver their desired ruling on the Affordable Care Act.

As Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts argued last week, McSally's vote to confirm Barrett is best seen as another vote to undermine Arizonans' health care access: just the latest proof that McSally's false "I will always protect those with preexisting conditions" promises are worthless, as fact checkers have said for months.

Trump and Republicans' support for Barrett has also signaled their belief that Barrett is a vote to undermine reproductive freedom, overturn Roe v. Wade, and jeopardize access to safe and legal abortion across the country.
