Allstate Mayhem Advertisements Highlight Do-It-Yourself Fails

PR Newswire

NORTHBROOK, Ill., Dec. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- With the growing number of do-it-yourself (DIY) videos online, homeowners increasingly are taking on home improvement projects. However, before they reach for their toolboxes, Allstate Insurance Company suggests they check if they have the right homeowners insurance coverage to protect them from one of their homes' potential sources of mayhem – themselves.

Allstate scoured the Internet to find four real-life "DIY fail" stories to serve as the inspiration behind the insurance brand's new "Mayhem DIY" commercials. Adding humor to these DIY fails through its popular Mayhem character, the company demonstrates its commitment to protecting homeowners from perils, including those from certain DIY mishaps.

"A home is the biggest investment most people make in their lifetimes and our agents play an important role in helping customers get an insurance policy with coverage to meet their needs," said Pam Hollander, vice president of marketing for Allstate Insurance Company. "Through these new commercials, Mayhem helps spotlight some vulnerabilities people face when attempting a project to improve or renovate their home and highlights the importance of understanding your coverage."

"Mayhem DIY" features a series of 30- and 60-second TV ads where the iconic Mayhem character creatively reenacts the four real-life DIY fail stories. These range from a woman who found her bathroom flooded in water from her toilet tank to a father who drilled a hole through the bathroom wall, causing a pipe to burst. The Mayhem ads help these DIY stories come to life in a creative and unusual way, illustrating the importance of using an insurance agent to help you customize your homeowner's coverage.

The four individuals get a "cliff hanger-type" teaser spot, which will be first shown during the broadcasts of the 2015 Chick-fil-A® Peach Bowl®, Playoff Semifinal at the 2015 Goodyear® Cotton Bowl Classic® and the Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One® Orange Bowl®, which air on December 31, 2015.  The ads will run again throughout the broadcast of the 2016 Allstate® Sugar Bowl® on January 1 and other select bowl games until January 11.

Beginning today through January 6, 2016, the general public can vote online at MayhemDIY.com and on Twitter for the DIY teaser they would like to see featured in its entirety during the National Championship Game on January 11, 2016. Fans who vote also are entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a variety of DIY tools. Winners selected at random will be announced hourly throughout the voting period. One grand prize winner also will be awarded $25,000 in Lowe's gift cards and the DIY tools represented in the winning DIY fail spot.
