ACU Urges Senate Republicans to Remain Committed to Passing Legislation Repealing and Replacing Obamacare

WASHINGTON, July 5 -- The American Conservative Union issued the following news release:
Today, the American Conservative Union called on Senate Republicans to continue their work on putting together legislation that will fulfill the promise made to voters to repeal and replace Obamacare. Conservatives are united in their opposition to the failed legacy of President Obama's healthcare bill and that failed legacy is having dire consequences for millions of working families all across the country. Premium rate hikes, lack of competition, and reduced access to real choices in the marketplace have put the healthcare system in a state of crisis. It's time for Leader McConnell and his caucus to come together to pass legislation that will increase competition and choice, while also lowering rates for individuals.
The House has done the job asked of them. After having some bumps along the way, they remained undeterred and determined to pass legislation moving the ball forward on the promise made to voters in the last several elections that delivered Republicans the majorities in Congress they enjoy today. Now it's time for the Senate to move the ball forward, and despite last week's news that more work needed to be done, ACU remains confident that Republicans in the Senate can come together and pass legislation that will be a marked improvement from the disastrous status quo wrought by Obamacare. We must fix the ailments of our healthcare system in America, and that is why it is imperative the Senate continue working on this issue.
ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp pressed Senate Republicans to keep their word, saying "Conservatives expect the Republican Congress to keep its most-repeated promise of passing a more free-market health reform package that will put a stake through the heart of the failures of Obamacare."
