Frederick News-Post (MD)

Sep. 9--"We Build, We Fight" has been the motto of the U.S. Navy's Construction Force, known as the Seabees, for more than 75 years. Seaman Jarvis Cain, a 2016 Walkersville High School graduate and native of Frederick, builds and fights around the world as a member of naval construction battalion center located in Gulfport, Mississippi. Cain is serving as a Navy logistics specialist, who is responsible for supplying the Seabees with the parts and tools they need for combat. Cain credits success in the Navy to many of the lessons learned growing up in Frederick.

Joseph Moss, of Walkersville, was placed on the dean's list for the spring semester at Wheaton College, in Wheaton, Illinois.

The following area students were awarded degrees on Aug. 9 from Clemson University, in Clemson, South Carolina: Megan E. Austin, of Woodbine, master's in accounting; Juanita Kateri Korn, of Mount Airy, master's in biological sciences; and Kenneth C. Stipcak, of Mount Airy, bachelor's in financial management.

Kurt Gilabert, of Frederick, graduated with a Master of Laws in Elder Law and Estate Planning from Western New England University, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Commencement ceremonies were May 19.

Thomas Morris, of Braddock Heights, has been named to the dean's list at Drexel University, Philadelphia, for the spring 2019 quarter. Morris is majoring in health services administration and minoring in finance. He is enrolled in the Pennoni Honors College at Drexel. This spring he was recognized as a Macy Fellow, having completed the Macy Leadership program for those pursuing careers in health care administration. He is also one of the student leaders for Drexel University's AgeWell Collaboratory and is involved in promoting initiatives in elder care and research in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. He is a 2017 graduate of Middletown High School.

Rose Sanicola, of Frederick, made the dean's list for the spring semester at Limestone College, in Gaffney, South Carolina.

Carolina Maggio, of Middletown, achieved dean's list status at Belmont University, in Nashville, for the summer session.

Sarah Spellane, of Middletown, is attending Northampton Community College, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Douglas Flynn, of Libertytown, has been named to the men's cross country team roster for the 2019-2020 academic year at Bob Jones University, in Greenville, South Carolina. Flynn is a senior majoring in engineering.

Daniel Callahan, of Frederick, made the dean's list for the spring semester at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Florham Campus, in Madison, New Jersey.

Jordan Boswell, of Myersville, was named to the honor's list for the spring semester at Fairleigh Dickinson University's Florham Campus.

Benjamin Leavitt, of Woodbine, is one of more than 120 students participating in marching band at Lebanon Valley College, in Annville, Pennsylvania.

Willow V. Stewart, of Frederick and a student at Walkersville High School, has been selected to become a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.

Two area students were awarded degrees on Aug. 3 from the University of Alabama, in Tuscaloosa: Lorien Baker, of New Market, Doctor of Philosophy, and Robert Collins Jr., of Frederick, a Bachelor of Science in commerce and business administration.
