ACC, New York Life to Host Eagle Academy Students at Barclays Center

BROOKLYN, N.Y., March 6 -- New York Life Insurance, a mutual life insurance company, issued the following news release:

The Atlantic Coast Conference and New York Life will welcome young men from the Eagle Academy for a career panel and Barclays Center tour on Monday, March 6 before the New York Life ACC Tournament.

The 30 middle school youth will hear from a panel of sports business leaders from the ACC, New York Life, ESPN and the Strategic Agency, about their career paths and current roles. Cory Alexander, a former men's basketball standout at the University of Virginia, will discuss the importance of education and his transition to being a commentator for the ACC Network and ESPN. In addition, the group will tour a locker room and other backstage areas at Barclays Center.

The Eagle Academy for Young Men is a NYC Department of Education all boys public school educating young men in grades 6 through 12. Since 2004, Eagle has expanded to all five boroughs and Newark, and now educates over 3,000 young men. All schools are supported by the Eagle Academy Foundation, itself a result of the initial investment of a group of educators, parents, community leaders and corporate partners, led by the One Hundred Black Men, Inc.

The Eagle Academy Foundation empowers at-risk inner city young men to realize their academic and civic potential with quality immersive learning experiences and proven community based practices that address short falls in public education.

2017 New York Life ACC Tournament

The 2017 New York Life ACC Tournament will be played March 7-11 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The tournament will begin on Tuesday and will conclude with a primetime championship game on Saturday. All games will be nationally televised by ESPN and the ACC Network and be available on WatchESPN and on theACC.com.
