A one-stop shop for businesses

Register-Herald (Beckley, WV)

Sept. 23--When local businessman Jack "Gordie" Roop, owner of Roop Insurance Agency, saw an opportunity to expand the services he offers his clients, he took it.

In January, Roop and partner Tiffany Kapp bought Custom Business Solutions on South Eisenhower Drive, a "one-stop shop" for employers to outsource the busy work that can turn into a second job and zap the pleasure from business.

"Roop Insurance has been here 29 years," Roop said. "But I've noticed, with my business clients, a lot of them have trouble with finding time to do all of this.

"Tiffany knew a lot about it, and so we partnered, and we offer that.

"I'm a one-stop shop for businesses. It doesn't matter how big a business you are, or how small."

As a professional employer organization (PEO), CBS handles it all, Roop said, from tracking employee clock-in and clock-out times to making sure paychecks are deposited into an account or on a credit card. He said his staff will take over the least enjoyable tasks like employee drug testing, workers' compensation, risk management and navigating the health care reform waters.

He said his client base is diverse, representing various fields and operations size. He provides services to many mines and restaurants in the area, he said.

"Coal mines, car dealerships, doctors' offices -- anybody and everybody," Roop described his clients. "If you have three or more employees, we can help you, and we do everything.

"For a small fee, we can take care of everything for them."

CBS employs knowledgeable business professionals who know state and federal law. Roop said the goal is to take over administrative details and free up employers and their human resources staff to focus on company objectives. CBS shares human resources management responsibilities with clients and helps them to streamline essential administrative business functions.

A key service CBS offers is "navigation" of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Roop said CBS gives clients the knowledge, infrastructure and support that they need to maximize business opportunities and to minimize any financial penalties associated with health care reform.

Roop pointed out that CBS doesn't just benefit employers. Employees are better able to thrive when their paychecks are well-managed, their health care is well-managed and their employers have time to focus on nurturing their careers and leading them toward company goals.

The result is a company with a positive reputation among workers and more incentives to offer talented job applicants.

"CBS will help you become an employer of choice, while being mindful of your bottom line," Roop stated on the CBS website. "CBS will enable you to offer enhanced benefits packages to your employees.

"The buying power that comes with a PEO partnership helps to level the playing field, so small companies can offer the benefits needed to recruit a winning team."

Roop and Kapp, along with business development director Noah Kapp, are offering their clients what he had envisioned when he first saw the need: peace of mind.

Roop is elected to the Raleigh County Board of Education and is vice president of the Raleigh Convention Board and president of the Raleigh Farm Bureau. He owns Roop Insurance with partner April Boone.

More information on the services CBS offers is available online at www.cbswv.com or by calling the office at 681-238-5732.

CBS is at 322 S. Eisenhower Drive.
