York hires consultant to run Business Administration, continues search for O’Rourke’s replacement

May 06--Michael Johnson has been hired to run the City of York'sBusiness Administration Department on an interim basis while the city searches for a permanent replacement for outgoing Business Administrator Michael O'Rourke.

Johnson was hired as an independent contractor for the period from April 21 to Dec. 31, according to his professional services agreement with the city. The York City resident will be paid $75 an hour, up to a maximum of $42,000 a year, the contract said.

Neither Johnson, nor York Mayor C. Kim Bracey could immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.

Johnson was hired as an independent contractor, meaning the city won't be providing him with health insurance, the agreement said. Johnson and the city have the mutual option of extending his contract beyond Dec. 31. Either side has the option of terminating the contract on 10 days notice.

Johnson's duties will include assembling a search committee to find a permanent replacement for O'Rourke, who resigned in April as city Business Administrator after 14 years on the job. O'Rourke's annual salary was $110,250.

O'Rourke will stay on the York City payroll until Aug. 31 and retire Sept. 1, according to his resignation letter to the city.

Bracey said last month it could take up to six months to find a permanent successor to O'Rourke.
