Yoakum livestock auction raises $170,000

Jan. 26--The sale of 53 projects at the annual Yoakum FFA and 4-H Livestock Show brought in $170,765.45.

The average price per exhibitor was $3,222.

"We had fewer animals than last year, but the quality of the animals was better," said Jay Mixon, Yoakum High School agriculture teacher and FFA adviser. "All of the children got good money for their animals from top to bottom -- not just the champs."

Last year, an additional 17 projects earned about $32,000 more.

Kaci Herman, of Outsiders 4-H, earned $8,946.67 with her grand champion steer.
