Waitress Serves As A Role Model No Friend Of Peace A Time To Judge House Can Be Saved Get A Second Job No Children Alone

Ever since reading about the waitress at Texas Roadhouse who got a paltry reward for turning in a wallet she found with $2,650 in it, I've been planning to have dinner at the Texas Roadhouse to meet her and see that she got more than a slap in the face for her honesty and integrity.

Sure, we all should do the "right thing" and not expect a reward every time we do something "right," but what if she had not been honest and had pocketed even some of that money before turning the wallet in to her manager? The patron would have been out plenty of cash, not just the $20 he managed to pay her.

Reading the comments section about this on LancasterOnline, I am surprised at the number of people who didn't feel that Breanna should have gotten anything. Sadly, today's world is again in financial crisis and sometimes a nice (hefty in this case) monetary reward is the right thing to do. After all, the girl is aspiring to be an elementary school teacher.

Thank you, Carol McGrath, for your July 28 letter to the editor to remind us that there are still young folks who are not of the "gimmee" mentality. See y'all at Texas Roadhouse. And, if I had a child in elementary school, I'd want him/her in Breanna's class.

Israel has no partners for peace, not Mahmoud Abbas and his so- called Palestinian government and definitely not Hamas!

Hamas is a terrorist organization, not a legitimate government, representing the Palestinian people. This is a terrorist group and a puppet for Iran, which is a sworn enemy of Israel.

Abbas showed his true colors when in June he once again set up a unity government with Hamas and less than two weeks later Hamas kidnapped and murdered three Israeli teenagers.

This happened on Abbas' turf, not in Gaza. Abbas wants Judea and Samaria, the West Bank, as a Palestinian state to govern but lacks leadership, much like Washington. If Abbas was a leader, he would have immediately separated himself from Hamas and assisted the Israeli police and found those three teenage boys before any harm came to them. Instead, he let a tragedy occur, and, shortly after that, another tragedy occurred involving an Arab teenager.

A government that includes a terrorist organization is a terrorist government.

Abbas, if he had any credibility, would purge his government of all Hamas leaders. All Hamas leadership should be deported or exiled from Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip.

Hamas, Abbas and Iran are responsible for the blood of the Palestinians. Secretary of State John Kerry was totally wrong twisting Netanyahu's arm to make a peace treaty with these people, and once again Kerry is headed back to the Middle East to twist his other arm with a cease-fire, which will not work.

Israel has to eliminate these daily rocket attacks. The Palestinians have no intentions of a peace plan, just the annihilation of Israel. Israel is leading; We can either follow or get out of the way.

Many people like to use Jesus' guideline to not judge, so they don't have to look at the reality of their sin - many but not all. But there is a time to be judgmental and a time not to be.

The apostle Paul judged a church because it failed to act upon members of that church, in which a man was having an affair with his stepmother. (I Corinthians 5:1-8)

Revelation 21:8 lists types of sinners who will suffer eternal condemnation. One description is "abominable." In Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13, homosexuality is called an abomination. Abomination is defined as something that causes hate or disgust.

This preacher in Lebanon County who presided over his son's homosexual wedding: Who do you love more? Your son or God? If you say God, you're a liar. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength.

Our physical kinship means nothing to God. We're all made of the soil of the earth, and God is creator of our souls. (Ecclesiastes 12:7, Zechariah 12:1)

The July 15 coverage of the West Lampeter Township supervisor's meeting stated that the article went to press before discussion of the 1734 Christian Herr II house ended. There was important information that came to light during the cross-examination of the owner's two witnesses, an engineer and a builder.

When questioned, the engineer acknowledged that the structure was not in imminent danger. He agreed that conditions found in the structure are common to other older structures in the area, and that the International Existing Building Code offers latitude when working on existing structures.

Furthermore, engineers from the engineering firm hired by the owners acknowledged they do not routinely deal with historic structures and that there are engineering firms with this expertise.

Most importantly, recognized local organizations and design professionals with preservation expertise made serious offers to help the owners find a solution that preserves the structure.

The Intell editorial of July 23 challenges us to live on $77 a week. That is what would be left after rent and taxes from a 40- hour minimum wage check.

The minimum wage should probably be raised, but, for the most part, there is no reason someone should settle for a minimum wage. There are more than enough taxpayer-funded programs that would give workers the skills necessary to earn higher wages. And what about a second job if more income is needed?

Growing up in the '50s without benefit of welfare, food stamps, etc., I was one of four children. My mother was a stay-at-home mom, my father was a transportation worker with a side job mowing lawns. What vegetables we couldn't raise in our garden my mom bought and canned.

For the most part, our clothes were secondhand from rummage sales, and there was no TV. Vacations consisted of a one-day trip to Atlantic City, at best. In fact, most of our Plain sect neighbors live similar lives of frugality today, and I doubt any of them feels deprived.

The other week, a picture of two Amish girls mowing their lawn with a push mower brought back memories, one pushing and one pulling the mower. In the '50's just about everyone used push mowers. Although they may not realize it, the lesson of hard work and cooperation these girls are learning is invaluable.

In our entitlement society, a 40-hour work week is deemed enough: If I can't make it on 40, pay me more or give me stuff. One of the most important gifts parents can give to their children is a work ethic. With it, they'll feed themselves. Without it, society will be forced to feed them.

In South Carolina, that lady Amy Campbell should be ashamed of herself. In this day and age, there is no reason to leave a child alone anywhere.

I applaud the police for arresting the woman for leaving her 9- year-old in the park while she worked. In this day and age when there is kidnapping or worse, she should be embarrassed. How would she feel if her own daughter did the same thing? She should be grateful for the wake-up call.

Our children are our future and should be taught how to stand up for themselves, how to express themselves and how to take the initiative in their lives.

Please don't bring them up to rely on mom and dad to pay their insurance, etc. You'll have no idea what a favor you will be doing. They may not appreciate it now. But it's better than the other option, parents not doing their jobs.
