VARTA Microbattery, Appoints Mr. William Flanagan President and Chief Executive Officer

ELLWANGEN, Germany and WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Dec. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- VARTA Microbattery GmbH, a world leader in research, development, production and sales of superior-quality electrochemical energy storage systems has announced the appointment of Mr. William Flanagan to the position of President/CEO of VARTA Microbattery, Inc.

Mr. Flanagan's new responsibilities as President and Chief Executive Officer will include long term strategic and financial planning, new business development and marketing initiatives for operations throughout the Americas. With his extensive knowledge and experience in both domestic and interna­tional distribution, Flanagan will provide overall guidance in retail, wholesale, OEM, direct sales, and government markets. Since his appointment as VARTA Retail National Sales Manager in 2003, Flanagan's acumen and leadership has empowered the organization to achieve triple digit sales growth, overhead reductions, increased profits, and improved brand awareness. Mr. Flanagan has been a key contributor in building heightened familiarity for the venerable German battery brand Power One in the North and South American markets. He will report directly to the CEO of the mother company, VARTA Microbattery GmbH, Mr. Herbert Schein.

Before joining VARTA Microbattery, Inc.William Flanagan held an executive level position with New York-based REVLON Inc. There, his responsibilities included successfully managing a variety of sales and market­ing activities.
