UTPA Alumni to Honor TDI Deputy Commissioner Danny Saenz

AUSTIN, Texas, March 28 -- The Texas Department of Insurance issued the following news release:

The University of Texas-Pan American Alumni Association will honor Danny Saenz, Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Deputy Commissioner for Financial Regulation, with the 2014 Pillar of Success award to recognize his 26-year career as an insurance regulator as well as his contributions to society and to the university. The award will be presented during university alumni event Saturday evening in Mission.

"I would like to heartily congratulate Danny for this well deserved recognition," said Commissioner of Insurance Julia Rathgeber. "He has dedicated himself to understanding and improving the regulatory oversight of the insurance industry, not only in Texas and the nation, but also globally. Danny is a shining example of someone who has achieved success and has generously shared his experiences with others. Truly a job well done."

Saenz began his career with TDI as an examiner trainee. He also has served as assistant chief examiner for market conduct examinations and director of financial analysis and examinations. Saenz was named Deputy Commissioner for Financial Regulation in 2007.

In 2011, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) presented Saenz with the Robert Dineen Award to recognize his contributions to state insurance regulation. Those contributions have included serving as a member of NAIC Financial Analysis Working Group since its inception and as current chair of the Group Solvency Issues Working Group. He has represented NAIC abroad at the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors.
