Virginia Beach Neptune Festival's Boardwalk Weekend events begin Friday from 2nd to 36th streets at the Oceanfront. Highlights include a parade, sandsculpting, music, surfing, food, arts and crafts, fireworks and children's activities.

King Neptune XL James M. Arnhold will be making appearances throughout the weekend, including at the Neptune Festival Grand Parade from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on Atlantic Avenue from 16th to 32nd streets.

As the Neptune Festival celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Beacon is taking a look back at the kings through the years.
