Sterne Agee Public Finance Hires Steve French as Senior Vice President

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sterne Agee’s Municipal Finance Group has hired former State of Alabama Senator Steve French to join its Southeast banking effort.

“Steve has an extraordinary knowledge of government and finance in addition to strong relationships developed over his 12-year career in the State Senate. Steve’s focus on customer service will benefit our Alabama clients with attentiveness, solutions to problems and competitive costs of borrowing,” says Hanson Slaughter, Executive Managing Director of Public Finance.

Senator French spent three terms in the Alabama Senate, representing District 15. He is an investment and insurance specialist and, most recently, had the committee assignments of Finance and Taxation General Fund, Health, Rules, and Industrial Development and Recruitment. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, Senator French was active in all aspects of Alabama politics, having operated a political consulting firm assuming key roles in the Republican Party, including serving as:

  • State Director for the Alabama Republican Party (1988 – 1991)
  • Regional Director for the Republican National Committee (1991 – 1992)
  • Alabama Campaign Manager for Bush/Quayle (1992)
  • State Organization Chairman for Bush/Cheney (2000)
  • Southeastern U.S. Legislative Co-Chair for John McCain for President (2008)

Senator French holds Series 7, 63 and 65 licenses and is a graduate of Auburn University with a B.S. degree in Personnel and Industrial Relations.
