Lemonade

You can't make a silk purse out of a horse's neck. Frog's take: You also can't make a peach out of a lemon. I sometimes say that when someone asks me to make them look good in a photograph.

In protest

Like Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr., the players of the NBA should engage in nonviolent protest. They should don their uniforms and take the floor and bounce the basketballs and never take a shot until the racist owner that the black players made supremely wealthy is dealt with.

Safe and secure

Kudos to the retiree from the Selinsgrove Center for speaking up for retirees. As a 40-year state employee who routinely worked in dangerous work environments, I, too, paid my dues. I never collected a penny of unemployment or any other benefit and was always happy to leave it for those who needed it. The commonwealth's excuse for paying my job classification less than the private sector was that our retirement would be secure. I kept my part of the bargain by working for less salary for 40 years for a secure pension.

Sewer rats

The left-wing liberal Democrats in Washington are taking this country down the sewer. We need about a good eight years of Republican presidents, Senate and House of Representatives to straighten this country out and get it back on the right track to cut taxes, get the economy rolling and to get jobs and construction workers out to work. The Democrats don't know how to do it. They are done.

Death, resurrection show

The words Christmas and Easter are not in the Bible. Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny rob us of the true meaning of the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our savior. Christmas gifts and Easter baskets are OK as long as it does not turn into greed. Jesus is the reason for the seasons.

Intolerance

This is specifically to the retired Selinsgrove Center employee: You came across as, frankly, sanctimonious. Stop talking about just other people and what they may be entitled to. Furthermore, you also sounded intolerant and ignorant, too.

Robber barons

I want to say that I agree 100 percent with the retired state worker on the pensions. We paid in 6 to 8 percent from our pay every single week to the pension fund. It is the government's fault, just like they robbed Social Security. It is time to vote them all out.

Come together

I am calling to congratulate and thank Naiad Reich for the outstanding job she did getting together a team for the MS walk that was held in Bloomsburg. It was the largest team with over 50 participants and raised more than $2,000. Great job, Naiad.

Close quarters

In regards to purchasing a parking place in front of your own home, what about a situation like at Anthracite and Church streets? Four half-doubles and only enough room for two people to park? I don't think that would be really fair. Other places like Rock have so many half-doubles and not enough parking places.

Might as well jump

It is true that the gas prices go up every spring come Memorial Day, but it is also true that Corbett, assisted by Masser, put a tax on us this year that made it jump even more.

Going green

I am calling about the recycling, I would like to know why they don't have a recycling center in Mount Carmel like they do everywhere else. Why do we have to pay to pick up our recycling when they get paid for it when they deliver it to the recycling centers?

No more

I can't believe that the AOAA went out of the county to buy their insurance. That is the first mistake you made. No more donations from me.
