Sheetz opens near Spotsylvania hospital

June 14--The area's newest Sheetz opened Thursday at U.S. 17 and Hospital Boulevard in Spotsylvania County.

Sheetz, which describes itself as "more than a convenience store," is a gas station, convenience store and sells made-to-order food and coffee.

The new location is in a more than 6,000-square-foot building and has more than 30 employees.

Another Sheetz will open next Thursday at U.S. 1 and Massaponax Church Road. That location has a drive-through, which is being piloted by the Pennsylvania-based company at new locations with large enough lots.

These are two of three new locations planned for Spotsylvania. The first, in front of the new Lafayette Crossing subdivision at the corner of Lafayette Boulevard and Alliance Way, opened in 2013.

Sheetz operates several area stores, including ones in Fredericksburg and King George, Stafford and Orange counties.

Additional new locations have been approved in Stafford, at Garrisonville Road and Furnace Road, and King George, at U.S. 3 and Dahlgren Road.

Allen Stevens, who selects sites for the company said, "This location is growing, it's a great area for new Sheetz."

Hiring event for vets is set for June 26

Veteran Opportunity Expo, a hiring event for veterans and others with military backgrounds, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.June 26 at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

RecruitMilitary expects more than 45 employers, franchisers, educational institutions and government agencies to be at the expo. In addition, USAA's local Wealth Management team will give a seminar on retirement planning at 10 a.m.

The event will be sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans and produced by RecruitMilitary, a military-to-civilian recruitment firm.
