Saxton & Stump Open New Law Firm

LANCASTER, Pa., April 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- James Saxton and Christopher Stump, two local attorneys who have been practicing together for more than 25 years, have opened a unique law firm focused on defending doctors, hospitals and nursing homes in medical professional liability claims and providing risk mitigation and safety consulting services to health care professionals.  Based in Central Pennsylvania, Saxton & Stump, LLC serves as a full-service health care litigation defense firm which also provides comprehensive consulting services.  Saxton will be the CEO, with Stump serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The new law firm employs 40 professionals including sixteen lawyers, five paralegals, five doctors and six nurses, in addition to health care consultants, strategy and development staff.  In addition to Saxton and Stump, partners include Michael D. Pipa, Esq., Matthew W. Rappleye, Esq., B. Craig Black, Esq., Maggie M. Finkelstein, Esq. and Shaun J. Mumford, Esq.

"Saxton & Stump represents a new and unique business model dedicated to the changing and often challenging needs of the health care community," said James Saxton. "By assembling an exceptional team of litigators, paralegals, doctors, nurses and consultants all focusing on defense litigation, risk management, patient safety and quality assurance work, our firm is not only well positioned to defend health care professionals but can also help clients reduce litigation through innovative risk management strategies."

For the past 17 years, Saxton and Stump have been practicing health care law at Stevens & Lee, named among the largest 200 firms in the country.  Saxton served as Chair of the firm's Health Care Risk Management and Litigation Department.  With an active litigation practice for more than 30 years, Saxton regularly represents hospitals and physicians before state and federal courts in professional liability and complex litigation matters.  He also counsels clients on safety and quality initiatives as well as health care captive insurance issues.  A prolific author, Saxton also speaks across the country on a variety of health care related topics including liability reduction and risk management.

Stump represents hospitals, doctors and health care professionals in all areas of health care litigation including malpractice defense, coverage issues, licensing disputes, administrative proceedings and risk management.  He has appeared before trial, appellate and administrative courts throughout central Pennsylvania.
