Risk Management and Insurance Ranked Among ‘America’s Best Colleges’
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 16 -- St. Joseph's University issued the following news release:
U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges" 2011 edition ranked Saint Joseph's University's Risk Management and Insurance program among the top undergraduate business specialties. The rankings place Saint Joseph's at No. 11 in its category.
"This achievement would not have been possible without the help of our corporate partners in the insurance industry," says Joseph DiAngelo Jr., Ed.D. '70, dean of the Erivan K. Haub School of Business. "In partnership with faculty, our Academy of Risk Management and Insurance Advisory Board has helped us build a curriculum and numerous internships that support students as they maximize their career potential through their undergraduate education."
Established just three years ago within the Haub School, the Risk Management and Insurance program has achieved rapid growth. With support from insurance executives comprising its Advisory Board, the program awards $75,000 in scholarships annually; has a chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, a professional fraternity of risk management and insurance students; is one of 21 schools with a Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) collegiate chapter; and will host, for the third year, "The Energy School" which attracts insurance executives nationwide for training on how to adapt to the challenges of protecting our nation's energy companies from shattering losses.
Vice President of Gamma Iota Sigma Tom Skwiat '11 says what interested him most about the major were the career opportunities. "What is most appealing to college students are jobs and scholarships -- this program offers plenty of both," he says.
The Haub School is an international AACSB-accredited institution in business and accounting offering programs at the bachelor's, master's and executive master's levels. Both the undergraduate and graduate programs are included in the U.S.News & World Report "America's Best Colleges" 2011 edition. The Haub School has been recognized by the Aspen Institute as one of the Top 100 business schools in the world in its 2009-2010 edition of Beyond Grey Pinstripes for its leadership in integrating ethical issues into its graduate business curricula. The school was recently named one of the nation's top business schools in the Princeton Review's "The Best 301 Business Schools" and recognized by Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for AACSB-accredited institutions, with the Gold Chapter Award.
