The Ecuadorian insurance industry grew in terms of gross written premium value at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.5 percent during the review period (2007-2011). The life insurance segment registered a CAGR of 21.4 percent during the review period. This growth was mainly driven by an increased demand for group life insurance schemes. The non-life insurance segment accounted for the largest share of 70.5 percent of total insurance industry written premiums in 2011. The Ecuadorian insurance industry is fragmented due to the presence of a large number of domestic and foreign insurers.
