Reports from Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs

Jan. 28--Dec. 12 -- At approximately 5:58 p.m., Officer Curtis Rodgers was dispatched to the 700 block of Mechem Drive in reference to an assault. Upon investigation, the victim and a witness reported that Dr. Kenneth Childress of Ruidoso was upset with the victim and allegedly yelled at, and was being extremely aggressive towards her. The victim reported that Dr. Childress pointed his fingers in her space of less than an inch away and pushed her two times. The witness saw him push her with his body as she went to gather her belongings but did not see the second alleged push. However, she did reportedly hear the victim say "don't push me" and observed the victim move like she had been pushed. Childress was charged with battery and assault.

Dec. 19 -- At approximately 3:29 p.m., Officer Jon Lund took a report at the police station in reference to credit card fraud. The victim reported using her card Dec. 17 but could not find it afterwards. The next day she contacted the restaurant where her last purchase was made but staff there said they had not found it. On the Dec. 19 there were two transactions made to two separate Allsup's location in the amounts of $40.12 and $53.66 respectively. She then canceled the card but found an additional charge being made the following day for $41 at another Allsup's. The case was forwarded to C.I.D. for further investigation.

Dec. 20 -- At approximately 3:36 p.m., Lund was dispatched to the 2700 block of Sudderth Drive in reference to larceny. Upon investigation, it was reported that a woman checking into a hotel had her wallet stolen from the counter. Although the theft was not noticed immediately, when the missing wallet was noticed by the victim, an employee reviewed surveillance and observed a black female with dreadlocks steal the wallet. Several clues including the vehicle she left in were investigated, but no arrests had been made.

Dec. 28 -- At approximately 6:09 p.m., Officer Curtis Rodgers was dispatched to the 400 block of Sudderth Drive in reference to a verbal domestic. Upon investigation, it was reported that Josie Corona of Ruidoso was upset with the victim and allegedly caused a scene by yelling at the victim over being late. It was reported that Corona was so upset that she allegedly slapped sunglasses out of the victim's hand, breaking them. Corona was charged with verbal domestic.

Jan 1 -- At approximately 4:30 a.m., Officer Lance Ledford was on patrol and witnessed a confrontation at the 200 block of Gavalin Canyon. Ledford observed three males exiting a residence, one with a baseball bat. He then witnessed Ryan Chavez of Ruidoso allegedly attempt to hit a male victim with the bat. After Chavez saw the officer, he gave the bat to Ariana Guerro of Mescalero, who took the bat into the residence. Ledford noted the parties were intoxicated and called for assistance. Upon investigation, Guerro refused cooperation and was placed in handcuffs. She reported an injury to her hand and admitted it was from hitting the victim, who was asked to leave the residence. Chavez was questioned on striking the victim with a bat and he said he had a right to defend his home. An ambulance was called for the victim due to severe wounds but refused treatment. A warrant came back for Guerro (traffic) who was also charged with concealing identity, resisting, evading and obstruction of an officer, conspiracy and tampering with evidence. Chavez was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and conspiracy to commit tampering with evidence. Christopher Williams of Mescalero, a witness, was found to have a warrant for drug paraphernalia.

Jan 1 -- At approximately 3:01 p.m., Officer Joseph Bailey was dispatched to the 200 block of Highway 70 in reference to shoplifting. It was reported by an employee that Branson Lester of Mescalero was witnessed allegedly taking two shirts and running towards the door. The employee yelled at the subject to stop but he continued out the door and tried to climb the cliff behind the store. When Bailey arrived, he observed Lester trying to climb the cliff and took him into custody. Lester was charged with shoplifting.

Jan. 10 -- At approximately 7:14 a.m., Lund was dispatched to the 100 block of Rio Street in reference to a broken car window. A passer-by reported a window broken on a Cadillac Escalade with Texas plates. Lund located the owner and after a vehicle search, it was discovered that a Kimber Pro Carry .45 valued at $1,400 was missing from the console. There are no suspects.

Jan 10 -- At approximately 10:31 p.m., Officer Wallace Downs was dispatched to the Camelot area in reference to an auto burglary. The victim, visiting from Holloman Air Force Base, reported the rear-door passenger side window had been broken out. Items reported missing include Remington 9-mm ammunition, a Cobra radar detector, a Garmin GPS and his insurance cards. Fingerprints were lifted, no further information.

Jan 11 -- At approximately 2:42 p.m., Bailey was dispatched to the 100 block of Sarah Lane in reference to a report of a stolen wallet. The victim reported losing his wallet at a convenience store and had numerous credit cards and insurance cards in it. The credit cards had been used to make purchases at a gas station, restaurant and another unidentified location. The suspect also was trying to reverse the hold on the cards placed by the victim. The case is under investigation.

Jan 16 -- At approximately 1:13 p.m., Officer Curtis Rodgers was dispatched to the 300 block of Gavalin Canyon Road in reference to stolen items. The victim reported several items were missing from the backyard of a residence he had moved out of in September. He did not have serial numbers for the items and there were no suspects.

Jan 17 -- At approximately 11:34 a.m., Lund was dispatched to the 200 block of Fir Drive in reference to a violent domestic in progress. Upon investigation, it was reported that Casey Smith of Ruidoso, allegedly armed with a screwdriver, threatened to kill his family and hurt himself after he was refused a loan of money by the family. Lund found Smith hiding in the bathroom and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He also was found to have four warrants for his arrest on unrelated charges.
