Report Shows that ACA Will Extend Medicare Solvency

WASHINGTON, July 29 -- Rep. Eliot L. Engel, D-N.Y. (16th CD), issued the following news release:
Congressman Eliot Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and a member of the Subcommittee on Health, says that a report from the Social Security and Medicare Boards of Trustees confirms that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has helped buoy Medicare, extending the solvency of Medicare's hospital insurance by an additional four years.
"This report should send the Republican spin doctors into hiding. It's contrary to what they have been peddling about the Affordable Care Act. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, the Medicare Hospital Insurance Trust Fund will remain solvent four years longer than projected. This is welcome news for the millions of seniors who rely on Medicare to cover doctor visits, prescriptions, and hospital stays.
"Certainly more needs to be done to shore up Medicare so that it will remain solvent for the next generation. I will continue to press solutions that address its long-term financial security without sacrificing medical coverage for some of our most vulnerable citizens."
