Police look into allegations of embezzlement from Santa Paula band booster club

"We received information this past weekend that individuals within the booster club organization allegedly embezzled funds," Garcia said. "We have looked into it and have filed a report with Santa Paula police."
She said in an interview that the problem was revealed when "a discovery was made that the amount of funds should not have been what it was."

It was unclear how much was allegedly stolen.
"We're not ready to disclose the amount at this time, but it was a significant amount," Garcia said.
She also would not say exactly how much money the club has raised in recent years. However, a 2009 report filed with the
Garcia said the allegations were that two people embezzled funds. A statement emailed by Garcia said the booster club "has severed ties with these individuals" and is working with police on the investigation.
The club has reported the missing money to its insurance company in addition to reviewing its accounting and reporting practices, according to the statement from Garcia. The statement also said the club will have its books audited in an external review.
Garcia emphasized that the booster club is a private nonprofit organization.
Her statement said the money was either raised or "donated by students, parents and the community."
